No matter what you’re growing it's good to know what you’re growing it in.  The soil type and its composition is one of the most important factors for maintaining healthy plant life.  From the forest to the back yard it is crucial to understand the soil characteristics of a given site.  Virginia Forest Service and Land Care can collect samples and have them analyzed to determine nutrient deficiencies, pH levels, organic matter, and disease pathogens.  Samples are used in conjunction with Geological Soil Survey Data and on site observations to determine soil needs.
